Taking good care of your fresh ink :

Every tattoo artist has their habits and advice for aftercare.
If yours did not give you theirs or you forgot, here are mine:

To begin with, you need a mild washing gel.
A shower gel without soap or a shower gel for baby will be perfect
All shower gels have a neutral (7) or philological (5.5) pH. They will be fine.

Day 1

You leave the shop with a plastic film.
(Or with nothing, they can do that too.)

Keep the plastic for a few hours max, just keep it to go back home and do not put a new one on. EVER !

When you get home, practice the good old method hot water / cold water: Wash your tattoo and rinse with rather hot water a few minutes. Finish the shower with cold water (a few minutes too).
Pat dry with a clean towel.
Apply your Essential Tattoo Care Balm.
With a waterproof bandage.
(Like tegaderm.)

The bandage will stick on for 2 to 3 days.
As long as it stays in place,no need to worry about it, you can live your life like nothing happened.

Once it starts to come off or after 3 days, remove it entirely and wash the area.

Pat dry with a clean towel.
Apply your Essential Tattoo Care Balm.

The following days (day 2 to day 10-15)

Wash your tattoo once a day, a second time if necessary (dirty work, sports ...) But no more.
Pat dry the tattoo and your hands with a clean towel.
Apply your Essential Tattoo Care Balm.

If you need to protect your tattoo use a clean fabric, made of natural fiber (cotton, linen ...)
No synthetic fiber fabrics or plastic, it will suffocate your healing still fragile skin !

At any time if you feel your skin dry or uncomfortable, apply again the balm taking care to wash and dry your hands before. (No need to wash the tattoo for each application.)

After a few days, your tattoo will start to peel and it can itch, it's normal. DO NOT SCRATCH !!!

And after that ?

You can stop once your tattoo has completely peeled.

A little hydration will always do the best for your ink, so you can use your Essential Tattoo Care balm or another moisturizing product. Just about any other, what you like will be perfect.

And for all your life you will have to beware of the sun !
Ideally do not expose it at all.
If you do not have a choice, a good sunblock will be your best friend.

What if things go wrong ?

If the tattooed area shows abnormal symptoms:
  • redness
  • irritation
  • pimples
  • pain
  • swelling
  • strong itching
  • or anything unusual
There might be an infection or allergy.
Ask your tattooist for advice and see a doctor.
